We're very excited to present this new and improved version of the NewHaven NEWS to you, as it's been awhile since we've published an official newsletter - and heaven knows our previous efforts left lots of room for improvement!
The format and graphics of this new edition reflects that of our updated website, and includes direct navigation to several new areas on the site, as well as a few new features. I'd like to call your attention to the sections to the right, highlighting our new online training videos, our new live online training sessions (starting soon), and a Profiles section that will feature articles on our customers, our team, and our business partners in future editions. This issue has a great story about one of our long-term CMS customers, who has just started a new venture that evolved out of his passion for tea – so why not brew a cup, sit down, and enjoy!
We've tried to design this new format so that it's easy to navigate and read, and have provided direct links to lots more information on our website. Some issues, (like this one), will have articles too long to fit in the newsletter, so we'll give you a little taste and encourage you to go to our site to read the whole article.
We're proud of this first edition, but we're also focused on making the NEWS the best it can be – so if you have ideas or suggestions on how you think we can improve, topics you'd like to see covered, etc., please let us know by sending an email to news@newhavensoftware.com . We'd also like to know how often you'd like to receive our newsletters, so please drop us a line.
Finally, please join me in congratulating Malcolm for doing such a fine job of designing and constructing this newsletter, and Emily Barnes for her fine writing and editorial skills.
Enjoy,
Tom Danner

Upgrade Your Business
Times are tough – and about to get tougher. With the recent meltdown in the financial markets, the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming elections, and an overall slowdown in business, it's time to step back and reassess how you are doing things and why.
Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of our country's current economic situation, take advantage of the enormous opportunity to re-invent yourself and how your company does business. Those who react smartly and focus on fine-tuning their operations will be rewarded throughout the fourth quarter and for years to come. Pull back and retreat and you may never recover.
Considering the timing and current political/economic climate, perhaps it's appropriate to quote Joe Kennedy, the famous patriarch of America's most enduring political family: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." (Actually, it was legendary Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne who originally coined that phrase way back in the 1920's, but Joe made it famous.) Joe’s “can-do” attitude and unwillingness to accept nothing less than the best outcomes in any given situation obviously influenced his children, whose success and rise to political power in this country have been living examples of Joe’s firm hand and belief in doing whatever it takes to succeed.
At NHS, we've been working hard to help the "tough get going" this fall. A few months ago, we released our most significant software update ever – CMS 5.0. In addition to laying the groundwork for future advances, this latest version incorporates many new features and technologies that will allow you to run your company more efficiently, now!
-For example, the new help system in 5.0 helps you bring new and/or temporary workers up to speed this fall. It also can help your current employees work faster, more efficiently and with fewer mistakes – and subsequent calls to NHS for support. This ensures greater accuracy, higher throughput and improved employee – and customer – satisfaction.
-Our new Automated Imports (AI) module helps you speed orders through the system, by allowing you to set criteria that allows imported orders from your website or call center to speed through the system without review. This empowers you to process higher order volumes with less human intervention – which can save you both time and money.
-Our eCMS eCommerce software solution integrates with CMS to make order processing, inventory, and product maintenance as simple as clicking a button. The superior administrative tools, ease of use, and reasonable cost are only outweighed by the improvement in visibility and increased online business you’ll experience!
-Our new Enhanced Point-of-Sale (EPOS) module includes new features and functionality that turns a CMS workstation into a full-fledged cashier’s station. We include pre-tested hardware that allows you to scan UPC codes, swipe credit cards, print receipts, and put the money in the cash drawer. We even tell you how much change to give your customer and provide reporting for end of shift or till-closing.
-Our Professional Services Team can work with you to clean up and improve data & business processes, create custom reports & custom functionality, streamline workflow, and much more. We can help you fine-tune CMS to do exactly what you need it to do – even if you didn’t know you needed it! In other words, we help good businesses like yours get better.
These are just a few examples of the many ways we can leverage our years of experience and expertise to help you run your business more effectively. Over the past couple of years, we asked you what we could do to help you run your businesses better. As a result of the feedback we received, we’ve completely re-trenched and re-designed our business model to offer the best software, industry-leading support and professional services to our customers. Instead of spending the majority of our time and energy on new sales as our competitors do, our primary focus at NewHaven has always been on you, our existing customer.
Sure, we sell software to new customers all the time, and we’re proud of the track record we’ve established by welcoming companies from many of our competitors’ software platforms. But our first and primary focus is you – our current customer. Because we know that if we help you succeed, we’ll succeed. That formula has served us well over the past several years, and we think we’re getting better at it each year.
Over the next several weeks, we’ll be rolling out even more evidence of this effort, by offering free online training sessions, adding video training to our website, hosting online and live face-to-face roundtable sessions, more frequent communications, and much more.
We’re here for one reason – to help you run your business better. That means different things to different people, but all the meanings have certain things in common – like growth, profitability, efficiency gains, new markets and opportunities – and on and on.
We’re proud to have teamed with many of our customers to help them find ways to run their businesses better and accomplish their goals sooner - and in ways they never imagined possible. We’ll be sharing some of these success stories with you over the next few months, so you can see how a little bit of combined effort can result in returns beyond your expectations.
If you’d rather thrive than just survive this fall, give us a call. We’ll work with you to Upgrade Your Business!
